3 Car Interior Accessories that are Actually Useful

2021 is all about practicality. We’re not talking cool gadgets here, we’re talking accessories that actually perform a function over those that just look somewhat cool. Maybe those so-called cool gadgets were eventually tossed to the side because it cramped your style, or was it really not that cool after all? 

We chose these handy additions to your car because they were designed to make your life easier, and you don’t have to be a car enthusiast to appreciate their usefulness. 

A good cellphone holder

You’ve been through a dozen cellphone mounts and find that they just don’t live up to what they’re supposed to do: Hold your phone. If the phone doesn’t fall out of the holder, the holder falls out of the air vent it’s attached to. 

Different mounts work better with certain cars and phones than others. There are the spring-loaded adjustable type and ones that hold your phone by means of a magnet. You might settle on a mount for its aesthetic appeal but if your phone is big or heavy, be sure to check that your phone will fit and that the mount will hold it. 

There are two main types of phone holders in the way they are attached  – air vent, and windscreen or dashboard. 

• Air vent attachment– These mounts are best for air vents that are rigid and not rotate in a circular fashion. 

• Windscreen or dashboard attachment – These mounts are either attached with the use of suction, or adhesive for a more permanent solution.

Side pocket storage organiser

Can one really ever have enough storage space? Not that we have to accumulate unnecessary stuff to fill those spaces, but there’s always a need to keep things organised and tidy.  Whether it’s house keys, sunglasses, pen, or a bottle of water, everything should have their place in a car. Otherwise you’d be prone to things falling into mysterious crevices, rolling around under seats, or worse, under brake pedals. 

Now, those gaps between the two front seats can become useful spaces instead of blackholes where coins, potato crisps, and  hairclips vanish into. 

Essentially there are two main types of organisers: 

• Pockets – These simple pocket-type organisers work well if you have a narrower gap. They simply slot in between the front seats and the hand brake area.

• Multi-functional console – For wider gaps, these storage devices allow for better organisation as they have multiple pockets and some even come with a special coin slot with removable holder and collapsible drink holder, like this one pictured. If your car already has sufficient cupholder space, there are organisers without drink holders. The unit comes with adhesive foam strips that you can attach to keep it snugly in place.
