Here’s how you can take care of your car this winter

Motoring and Travel June 25, 2024

Some love it, some loathe it… winter is a season that we all have to live through. Prepping for it goes beyond stocking up the pantry with essentials for those hearty meals and purchasing warmer clothing. Prepping for winter also includes making sure that your car is in perfect condition to withstand the colder months.

Here are some tips you can use to take care of your car this winter:

Inspect your tyres

Ensuring that your tyres are in good condition is a must, from inflating them to the correct pressure to making sure that the tread of the car is at least one millimetre.

Windscreen and Wipers

Ice and frost can easily build up on your windscreen during the winter, don’t use warm water on your windscreen as this can cause it to crack. Instead, gently use a thin scraper or heat up the car to get the ice to defrost.

Check your wiper blades to see if they need to be replaced due to wear and tear.

Park in a garage

Do this where possible, doing this helps protect your car against elements like frost, wind and dust.

Lights

Longer days and shorter nights mean it can get really dark really quickly. Make sure all your exterior lights and turn signals are working to increase visibility.

Fuel tank

Keep your fuel tank at least half full to prevent condensation from forming in the tank and it also helps stop your fuel light from freezing in extremely cold weather.

Keep a clean car

Washing your car regularly can help remove dirt and build up that can lead to rust and other damage to the exterior of your car.
